X-Files Season 11: How to Have Your Goop-O A-B-C and Eat it Too

When season ten of The X-Files was announced, I was ecstatic. The X-Files was one of the few shows that I watched from series premiere to series finale. I absolutely identified as an x-phile and the fandom was a very, uh, educational place to be in the late 90s. So, like a dedicated fan, I came back for season ten. While I loved seeing my favorites back on the screen playing the characters who meant so much to me, for some reason it felt like it didn’t have the magic of The X-Files. Quantico, which aired on ABC in the US this past year, garnered critical acclaim and commercial success on Sunday nights, which...

Indigenous Sci-Fi: 3 Takes on ABC’s Cleverman

Cleverman is a new Australian sci-fi/fantasy series that draws upon indigenous Australian (aboriginal) mythology. Collider called it “District 9 with werewolves instead of aliens,” and The New York Times characterized it as “sci-fi with a social conscience.” The series  just premiered on ABC TV in Australia and Sundance TV in the US to favorable reviews not just for its concept, but for its execution behind the camera as well. It was created by a diverse team of people (two men and three women) and produced by an equally diverse group (six women and three men). Already renewed for season...
